The South Beach diet – the latest craze
The South Beach Diet created by Dr Agatston, a leading cardiologist has become a proven fast weight loss diet. He is a leading cardiologist and invented the diet to improve his patient’s hearts but realized that they were substantially losing weight. The South beach diet restricts carbs initially i.e. during the first two weeks but slowly re-introduces those carbs that have a low glycemic index.
During phase I of the South beach diet, like most glycemic index diets, most of the carbs are restricted to stop the cycle of longing for more rich carb foods. During this phase one should not eat bread, rice, potatoes, fruit, milk, sweets, pasta and alcohol but you can eat lean meat, chicken, fish and eggs. It is believed that one can lose up to 14 pounds. In phase two carbs with alow glycemic index are re introduced which includes fruits, cereals, low skim milk, pasta and whole grain bread. You will need to continue taking these foods till you reach the desired weight loss level. Once you reach the target weight you can re introduce a variety of foods but make sure to maintain your weight.
